Default Service Engine Soon Light On

My battery went dead last week and had to jump my 96 vert to get started. Since then the Service Engine Soon Light has been on. Any ideas as to what was the cause and how I can turn it off? Thanks.

Disconnect the battery ground for a minute and then hook it back up. If the light comes back, you will want to find out what code has been set.
Can't answer, why is it on.
