Default 85 MAF question

Ok too keep this short. I was doing some testing without my air filter this morning and something came through and broke the wire on my MAF . I have another sensor that i never used though . it has the same numbers on the bottom but the car surges up and down instead of keeping a steady idle with that one in. it doesn't throw a code either. My question is the which numbers on the bottom tell you it is for an 85 versus other years. I know that you can't mix and match with and 85 and any other years so I want to make sure this is the right one and if so what do I have to do to fix this new problem.

BTW I figured out my old problems in light of breaking teh MAF this morning. My inlet tube from the pump to the sender in my fuel tank was loose (that was my fuel problem). and the dirty K&N air filter was a major restriction on the engine so much it was starving for air under full throttle so it would bog down.

These are the numbers on the MAF (the one with the broken wire). I was hoping someone can verify these numbers to tell me if they have similar numbers. The MAF that is on the car that surges has same top numbers but different bottom numbers. please help ;(

Default THanks for the info...slight problem

I have three more mass air sensors all with corresponding numbers to your response. The one that was in the car that broke and the one I think should work have the same exact numbers.... But the idle goes up and down and runs like **** but does not throw a code. I'm wondering how two mass air sensors that have the same numbers (top and bottom numbers) could be for two different ECM's ???? I really want this MAFS to be right since it is practically new (screens on) . looks never used. I think I got it on EBAY a while back. But to no avail i can't get it to act right with my 85 vette. ECM is 6870 like it should be and all. i'm so confused. Maybe the MAFS was defective and thats why the guy on ebay was selling it or something. But I have two other MAFS with different numbers (but corresponding numbers from above and they all run the same;( someone shed some light on this!!!

You have to be careful of what you buy on Fleabay. People can get sucked into a bad deal relatively easy. Whatever the item is know exactly what your buying before you bid...ask lots of questions about whatever concerns you might have. If you get vague elusive responses from a seller regarding you questions or concers or no response at all --guess what --you should pass on the item. Not all sellers are looking to rip people off though...you can get some good deals there but it is buyer beware for the most part.

I'm not saying your MAFs are all bad....perhaps you have other issues with you car such as wiring, connectors or modules that connect to the MAF. Your up & down running MAF might only need to be cleaned to get it to act properly. Auto parts stores sell MAF cleaner in a can which looks similar to carb cleaner. Only use the MAF cleaner to clean your MAF. You should remove the MAF from the car before cleaning it.

I've been through a handful of MAFs since I bought my '89 I don't know if it is the salt air here or what but it got old after a couple went bad. Now a days I run Microtec MAF. I bought this brand because it boasts a lifetime replacement guarantee if it every breaks. They just swap it out with a new one. I've been running it for ~2 years now with no problems. My car doesn't seem to be able to tell the difference between the Bosh & the Microtec so I'll run the Microtec until the company goes bust.
