Default Heated o2?

Do i need to go with heated o2s? On my 96 lt4 I have one o2 sensor in the primary tube and one in the colector on the drivers side and on my passanger side I have one in the colector and one in the pipe about 6 inches after the colector. What is the differance in heated o2s? what perpose do they serve?

Oxygen sensors use some kind of chemical interaction with your exhaust gases to generate a voltage. This only happens if the sensor is at the proper operating temperature. Cars that come with non-heated O2's are usually just fine when they are stock as the sensors are located in the heavy cast iron manifold somewhere up close to the engine and they heat up quickly and stay hot.

If you move the sensors or install headers, or both as is usually the case, the sensor can cool off at idle and read erratically which can cause all kinds of problems.

Being said, you don't need to worry about it. Your LT4 has heated sensors from the factory.
