Make ABSOLUTELY SURE .. you're battery is 100% charged in the car before you write to a PROM ... my battery just died on me right in the middle of programming. I now have a giant paper weight sitting in my kitchen :( :cry :cry
There's a guy that can unsolder the eeprom and put a socket in it's place so that you can have a removeable chip. I don't remember who it is.... maybe AKM? Somebody remember?
That sucks though. Sorry to hear that. Must be torture not being able to drive the car now.

Yeah, it sux :( I talked to Andres at AKM, and he said he could do the socket thing and even give me extra chips incase it happens again. The only problems is I could overnight it tonight, and have him overnight it (for around $100 shipping total), and I would still only be getting it on Monday :(
Although that seems to be a long time and alot of money, I think that's your best solution. That way you have extra chips to mess with. I always have a spare chip with stock programming or the last known good programming handy.
At least that way, you'll never have the problem again!

Im confused, what exactly is the eeprom? Is it the chip in the black box above the battery? Doesn't it already pop out on its own?
It's inside that aluminum ridged box above the battery. On the '94-'95's .. you can't just take a chip out to program it .. you have to flash program it.
This is why I am going to buy a few extra chips and burn a copy of my factory chip. That one will be for emissions and other trouble shooting stuff and the others will be for playing with. Safest way I can think of. Sorry man. Can you still at least eat with it in the kitchen?? :seeya

I think the guy you're referring to is Craig Moates. Go over to the C4 tech page amd you'll see his post talking about the device and a link to his web page.
Actually it's Andrew from akmcables.com . He's sending me a new chip, and I'm going to solder that on. If I have this problem again, I will ship it to him to put the socket on. Right now I want the car to run, i don't have time to be down for another 4-5 days.

Joe
The chip you're talking about is different actually. The '94-'95 computers can't swap chips like this. The program part is a flash rom in mine. Craig's new socket for the 93 and older is sweet tough! :yesnod: :yesnod:
We hear horror stories all the time--some of the shops that have the GM reflash equipment for performing upgrades have
inadvertently let voltage drop, or used a battery charger when doing a reflash--and have lost communication part way through
the deal--only fix I've heard of is a new PCM. Hope someone else has better news...
So you're NOT supposed to have a battery charger hooked up at the same time as programming?!?! well poopie .. NOW I find out about that.
