I want to understand what accessories are required for the Tech 1 so that it can be used to scan and reset codes and reprogram the ECM for a '94 C4. What are the functions of the cartridges such as the power train cartridge and the mass storage device? All help will be appreciated.

Guys, I'm in a similar situation, bought a tech 1, cables, and cartridges off ebay. It displays the right menus with some of the cartridges, but the mass storage one gives me all black solid squares in the display, which I believe means that cartridge is toast. Any advice? The cartridges that do work are not for the vette, unfortunately.
If your scanner displays all blank squares with the MSC installed it does sound like the cartridge is shot. For those who have a working MSC check the version number for each functional area, the numbers below are the final release. As far as I know there are no dealers remaining that have the capability to update MSC's with older software since they no longer use the T15 computer.
If your MSC has the software listed below you should not need any additional cartridges, all previous cartridge software is included in the final release.
Those with 94 and 95 vehicles will need the 12 to 16 pin adapter with one of the following part numbers 02001575 or 30000053 for connection to the ALDL connector.
96 owners will also need P/N 3000086 14 to 12 pin VIM adapter and OBDII Vehicle Interface Module, part number 3000091 or 02001575
There is no cartridge that will allow reprogramming of the PCM using the Tech 1 or Tech 1A, that function was only available when connected to the dealership T15 computer and was limited to complete software replacement. Adjusting individual timing or fuel calibration parameters was never an option since any changes made in the dealership had to meet existing emission standards for the car in question. There is aftermarket tuning software that can do so, but it will not function with the Tech 1.
The Tech 1 can program mileage and options into a new CCM, the newer Tech 2 does NOT have this capability.
If you have other questions contact me by PM and I will try to answer them. I have some Tech 1 guides in PDF that I can send by e-mail but cannot attach them here.
