4 wheel alignment pricing
My local Goodyear dealer is going to charge around $200 for 4 wheel alignment. Seems a bit pricey, what do you guys think? I thought it should be around $70 tops, but I mentioned the word Corvette and the guy on the phone went like this "Hold on sir let me check again" and comes back in two seconds, "well, 'vettes are a little difficult, so it's around $200" I think he's f'ing with me.
Shop around and find a shop that will 'laser' align. $200 is steep, you should be around $80-$100 for a 4-wheel alignment. Do you have some type of 'custom' settings that you want done? I was very pleased with a shop I went to in Grand Rapids that did a custom alignment for me (I wanted an aggressive street/autocross setup). They put it the way I wanted and it still pulled a little, so I took it back and they tweeked it so there was no pull and it handled awesome, no charge on the second alignment, they wanted me to be happy with it. I will be returning this year for the same thing. Cost was around $80.
The firestones in Plano offer a lifetime of alignments on one vehicle for $129. I'm thinking I may have to do that when I get new rears.. I don't think they are aligned for my ZR-1 offset.
My Chevy dealer said it would take 4 hours at $70/hr. I'm waiting until I put in new bushings, and wheel hubs. I also will be looking around for a cheaper alignment price.
Trust me, $200.00 is waaaaay overboard for an alignment. I'd send those guys a nastygram after a stern discussion with the manager. I drive my '93 on the street, but it does see some serious road course and autocross duty as well. I found a local shop that is privately owned but is in size comparison that of a Sears/Pep Boys or Goodyear shop.
At this shop of which I speak very highly of.. their regular 4 wheel alignment goes for about $80.00. When I go in there, I ask for some crazy track alignment settings that means the mechanic has to turn every nut and adjustment on the car. What do they charge me after all this effort? Only $100.00. I'll take the car there several times through the summer and they gladly take care of it for me. This season, I'm gonna experiment a little with different camber settings from side to side depending on what track we're running.. Will they charge me the same? You bet!
Here in Florida at Tire Kingdom they have a $139 special for 5 years no matter what kind of car it is. I aligned every 5000 miles and my back tires lasted 30 K and front should have gone 45 K. Then I had an accident and replaced it with a Z06. Got the same alignment policy again. This time $159 for five years.
They use laser. Make sure you met the mechanic doing the work and talk to to him. Three hours is a bunch of c$%^&&p. My guy can do it in the same amount of time as a Chrysler Minivan. And on the Corvette the alignment stays consistently better if the parts are good .
While your at it, get before and after print outs! I have had a shop charge me and had not done a damn thing. When I asked for the print outs, they were more than a little "caught". We had a real good discussion on that one.
$49.95 here in Easten NC. This is with a new machine, you can also give them custom setting if you like. $200 looks lke about $150 of easy profit. Sid.
I had custom settings done at a Chevy dealership in Denver for $89.95. The tech was knowledgable and discussed various aspects of the custom settings. Cross-caster is key to no right or left pull.

I have paid anywhere from $50 - $100, no more than that.
I paid $59. at a front end specialty shop [independant] I would shop around
some dealers charge you but send it out to another shop and charge you as they did it themselves..
