My '95's digital voltage reading is always above 14 volts, usually 14.3. After starting up, it's 14.8 and very slowly, like 30 minutes before it's down to 14.2 or 14.3.
The analog gauge needle is between the last mark and 18...which would be 15.5 to 18 volts.
Are these measurements normal? Or do I have a regulator problem?
My 95 starts out at 14.9 after it's been sitting & that's with a battery tender. Been doing that for 14 years. After a bit it's at 14.2 & stays in that area.
Your digital dash readout sounds normal. I would suspect your analog gauge is not accurate. Put a DVM across your battary terminal and measure the voltage with the engine running. This measurement should be close to what the dig. reading is.
If both your dig. reading and analog reading where reading beyond 15V, then I would suspect a faulty voltage regulator.
The dig.ital readout is more accurate than the analog gauge on our C4's
Good to hear....all is normal. I have put a DMM across the battery couple of times to check and its always a bit lower than the digital display...the analog is not accurate enough....just serves as an indication or under or over voltage conditions.
