Default Auto door locks don't work

I can make the auto door locks work by hitting the button in the car, but when I use the remote control, the door locks don't move. They both attempt to move, that is i can hear and see them trying to lock or unlock. the remote control is new, and will unlock the back window. Any ideas?

The C4 PKE system is unlike any other remote door lock system.

PKE = Passive Keyless Entry

So, the doors are not supposed to lock by pushing the remote button.
What you hear when you hold the button down, is the locks cycling. This is how you turn the PKE system on or off.

If the system is on, the doors should lock as you walk away from the car. And then unlock as you walk back up to the car. No button pushing required.

If the system is off, then nothing is supposed to happen and you lock or unlock your doors manually or with the switch on the door.
The alarm will still be armed when you lock the doors.

You probably need to read up some on the PKE system.
Everything is explained pretty good in the owners manual, but I am guessing you don't have one of those yet?
You can find one in pdf format here:

I am at work right now, and can't spend a lot of time searching so maybe someone else will chime in with more details.

In the meantime, just do some searching on the PKE system. Should be lots of stuff out there.

Default PKE System

Your '95 has PKE... which means the drivers door should unlock as you you walk up and get close to the car without hitting the button....it also means the locks should lock by themselves as you walk away from the car with the remote in hand...the button on the remote should unlock the passenger door after you are close enough for the drivers door to unlock itself--be sure the battery is good in the remote (they don't have a long life in comparison to other systems)....also be sure the PKE is turned on walk up to the drivers door and hold the "door" button down for 6-8 seconds ..you should here the locks cycle...open and close the door and walk away holding the remote once you are out of range the doors should lock and "beep" the horn.

I say this with the assumption that you have the factory PKE/alarm system.

Thanks for the info, and I will check the owners manual when I get one next week. This is my first Vett. I got a good deal on it and it needed very little work to get it to run. Just some cosmetic stuff left. It's been a lot of fun. Thanks again for the help.
