I am about to change the 17 year old spark plugs in my 92!
I'm posting because I'm procrastinating. It doesn't look like fun
I picked up the NGK TR55 platinum plugs for replacement. Seems like everyone likes the regular old copper TR55 the most - but I don't ever want to change these for another 17 years.
I bought one of these cut down sockets off of ebay. You could probably make your own much cheaper. The one I bought also came with a GMGoodWrench tool with one open end and one wratching end. I picked up as many 5/8 sockets of different lengths as I could find. Plugs are very easy now. I can remove all 8 in about 20 minutes. Reinstallation takes a little bit longer. I do have headers which may also makes it easier. I change plugs at least once a year some times more.
Why? You only got 85K on them. Seriously though, it is a pain but worth it. It did mine at 100K (daily driver) but not the wires. Big mistake. Do them both at the same time. Got 130K on her now and she's going strong. When you start to do it be sure you blow out the area around each plug real good and I put some spark plug antisieze on the threads when I installed the new ones. I used the same antisieze compound used on aircraft spark plugs. I'm in the business so it was easy for me to get. You might find it at the auto parts store, I'm not sure. Using it makes it easier to install and torque. Take your time with this project. Good luck.
Did mine (92 lt1) about a month ago, took off the driver side air pipe and all 4 brackets that hold the plug wire looms. After that not to difficult at all; just have lots of different length extensions and bandaids available.

It started missing. It stumbles at moderate throttle at low RPM - when taking off from a light. Not bad - but the fuel injector cleaner didn't take care of it.
The plug wires are newish - about a year old - Taylors.

Got the anti seize.
Still stalling
You remind me of ................. me !!!!
Here's what you do........do the hardest plug first, the #8. Once you have that tackled, it is all downhill. On the driver side, just remove the 2 bolts that hold the ASF to the wheel well, move it out of the way. Don't mess with taking off any airpipes as they will more than likely bend.....Your '92 LT1 does have ASR, right ?
You know what.....you still have Sunday...you can procrastenate one more day !!!!!
Don't be intimidated by the spark plug change on the LT1. Unbolt the ASR on the drivers side (3 bolts) and lift it up to do the drivers side. The passenger side isn't that bad at all (except for the plug at the back of the engine). The swivel head socket is your friend. You can do it!
I change my plugs ever week or so just cause it takes 15 minutes and its fun to see how the cyls are running
Boy I can see there is a smart a** here I have a 88 & on the pass side I found a little plate to take out to get to the front one & a lot of bandaids & to put that plug back in I used a piece of hose on the plug to get it back in !!!! unless you have a hand that's smaller than a half dollar ????? & yes I do have the tools !!!!
