shorty headers exist for these cars but they are not worth the money in my opinion. Why not go with long tubes?

Why? Block huggers,AKA shorties, are little better than your stock exhaust system. If you are going to the expense of headers spring for long tubes you'll be glad you did.

the reason is because the car is way to low to run long tubes. and the motor is out of the car right now so i was thinkin some of the cheap painted shorties would at least make a little bit of an improvement over the stock stuff just with the diameter change

My Hedman Elite long tubes didn't noticeably affect ground clearance. The don't hang down like on a Camaro/Chevelle/Nova, they have an area to be in where they're tucked up in.

Many longtubes made for these cars give you plenty of ground clearance. The manufactures know they are low cars. I have the TPiS headers on my car and the dont hang past where the stock pipes were.

but if someone makes some lts that would have alot of clearence or maybe a midlenght type header i would be willing to give it a shot. my question was more in reference to the ports matching up and plug interference with a standard flange header. maybe there is a header that is made for another car that might work?

Unless you've got a lot of extra money or can't port, try just porting your stockers and painting them.

Here's a picture under mine with long tubes:

scored a set of sbc huggies as part of a horse trade...did a quick 'test fit' cause the huggers have much larger inlets than stockers...these are for 'straight plug' heads and will need spacers to clear the spark plugs on vette 'angle plug' heads (does anybod make 'angle plug' huggies ?)...knock sensor argues with right side huggie...looks possible.

Hmm maybe just maybe i could run some lts. Anyone got the time to measure how far they hang below the fiberglass body? my stock precats are only about 3/4" lower than the body is and they arent dinged really bad. Just bad enough to ruin a collector flange though......
