Default swapping computer ?s

I have a 92 vette. Wondering if anyone has put a newer computer from a 95 into the 92 in order to use PCM mail order tunes since they arent available for the older chips. I really dont want to go through the hassle of getting data writers and erasers as stated in the sticky tuning thread

If you REALLY love your car you could get the harness as well so that you could use the 94/95 PCM, that's the only way it will work, with another harness. I'm putting a Painless 60505 in my 96' right now (for other reasons)

Also, the 94/95 PCM contolls the e. trans, MAF, and sequential port fuel injection. All of which the 92 doesn't have.

that is the question i was originally asking, my fault for not being specific enough. so it will work by swapping the whole harness then that makes me all tingly inside

Ehh.. BCM might error.

Some things won't work right.

The 92+ cars, wiring is a disaster. Too much work, and it will never be right.

1992 = $DA2 binary, which you can get a mail order or you can get an emulator and tune real time.

I looked into this in detail -- if the search works, you will find it.

There are a lot of things to consider -- in the end, the best way was to sell the '92 and buy the '95....probably a lot cheaper too.

Yes, check out the Painless 60502/60505, that will do it.

You probably will get a CCM error but everything should work fine, I had a 95 PCM w/ a 96 CCM and I did get the blinking SYS but everything worked perfect. I have completely gotten rid of the PITA CCM though, worst thing ever (for me anyway).

All the above being said, you can make this work, but I would have to say I probably agree with Tom for the most part. No telling what problems you'll run into, the CCM is really the biggest problem, CCM controls pretty much freaking everything other than the engine, which is why I have gotten rid of mine and I'm just using a regular Street Rod harness for everything. Car will be FAR simpler now from a wiring perspective. But that's pretty extreme for most!

How does your speedometer work?

I was going to do a '91+ dash swap, but the CCM end of it turned me off. If the '91+ dash had a mechanical odometer it would have been great.

Now or before?

My car is a 96' but when I was running with a 95' PCM ALL the CCM stuff worked perfectly, other than the blinking SYS light. But all the dash stuff worked fine.

Now I have ripped out all the CCM stuff, new Painless harness has a wire that you can run to speedo

Yes, but the odometer is contained in the CCM, so your car won't display mileage.

I realize that the PCM will output the 4k PPM signal to drive the actual speedometer, but the odometer is stored in the CCM flash memory.

That is the huge heartbreak. I didn't want a car that would have a ZERO readout on the mileage.

Yeah but I could care less about mileage, my Autometer speedo will begin accumulating mileage. As far as I'm concerned it's a new car now.

I'll have this car til' I'm dead so keeping existing mileage value is not an issue. If you are reselling yeah I see where that would be a concern.
