Default Transmission upgrade!!!

Looking for some information on a 1989 C4. Can anyone tell me if a 4L80 GM transmission fit into a 1989 C4? I have mucho HP and need to quit burning up the 4L60 (700R4)... Thanks for any information...

A friend I race with has a ten second 89 Callaway aerobody that has a 4l80e conversion done years ago by Art Carr. The tranny has been bulletproof for years (unlike my 4l60e). Someone now sells a tailshaft housing that makes it almost a bolt in. Need to search Google for the company that makes this unit. I saw an ad a while ago and think they are in San Diego. Of course you will need a stand alone controller (TCI, Jet, Hughes or whoever).

I wouldn't recomend him anymore. After my 6 month old tranny blew up he had it for over 4 months. When I got it back it never worked right. Frank is horribly slow, and does not answer e-mails or phone calls. All I see is posts on z28.com about delays and excuses.

Never heard that before. CPT is usually highly recomended. Did they honor the warranty?

I've delt with Dana at Probuilt. Thats where my current trans came from. That guy knows his ****.

Default 4l80 for sure

I went with the 4l80 and tail shaft kit from LA. Should handle all that I have for now. I can tell you this... there seems to be a abundance of idiots that run transmission shops... You should have bee on my end of the conversation... I did finally get hooked up with the right ones... I have a 640HP that will put it down to the bottom of the tires without worry....

I have ordered parts from raptor and I haven't had a bad experiance .www.700raptor.com .I have a monster trans and it is the reverse manuel valve body .I ordered it from monster and it did not work and they did not stand behind their warranty.I had a local trans guy fix it for me,nothing major but did have to R&R from the car.Monster does not check their trans before they ship and it would not shift .Small stuff but still makes you mad when you put 4k in a 700r4.
I have had it to over 900 hp in the 9's for a couple of years .I have gone through many rear ends and splined the converter a few times.
If you have the 7k I would go with the 4l80e with the controler they have for 1k and be done with it.Their is someone on the form that has run the Raptor 4l80e for years .I think his words were, I have beat the snot out of this thing and can't kill it.He said all he does is set the controller to what rpm he wants it to shift at and it runs the number just by pushing a button.I think he runs in the 8 or 9's
If you spend the money and run the trans let me know how it holds up for you.I am installing the 4 link that Jessie, on the form is fabing up for me.Maybe now it will go streight and not cost me 2k a year in parts.
