Do each of you "burp" your new wires (let possible air out of the "boots") after connection to the Opti and plugs? I mean, Is this absolutely necessary? What are the consequences if the "boots" aren't "burped"?
Some of us have never heard of this procedure before. THANKS
I put dielectric grease in the boots before installing them and if I wasn't careful, they sometimes would slide back off. It is possible to trap air in there, but if I made sure they snapped in place, none seemed to come off
It has been mentioned in the past to use a spray can extension like on TB cleaner while installing wires on the opti especially if you use di-electric grease. Yes they do get air trapped in them and sometimes pop off. Laugh all you guys want but it also makes it easier to get them to snap into place. You can't always hear or feel when they do.
How is this "burping" done, do you just squeeze the rubber boot after you make the connection?
If you use di-electric that may or may not work as it does help seal any slight open area. To use the little red straw method just stick it in before you slide the boot on and pull it out after you are sure it is seated. Not real hard to do actually.

this is a pretty slick idea. I usually wiggle and twist the boot after it is seated. I always use dielectric and I have seen a boot or two push back out due to the trapped air. This also lets me know that I didn't get the boot seated completely.....with older spark plug wires, you don't always get that reassuring "click" sound, as the as the round end terminal inside the boot strecthes over time and use....
