I'm still a newbe on c4s. My anti loc light has been on since I bought this 87 vert. The only book I have is the Haynes 84 thru 96. I want to check connections on the Modulator valve & the Control Module. My book says they are in a storage compartment behind the drivers seat. The only thing I can see is a Bose speaker behind each seat. Can someone tell me where these components are located ?
Thanks Mike !I found them. I have'nt pulled the plugs apart yet to check connections. Do you by any chance know of any other reasons for the anti-loc system to not work ?
Each wheel has a vehicle speed sensor (VSS) that provides input to the ABS module. You could have one that is bad. It's also possible that the controller or modulator is bad or the ABS pump itself is not working (pricey fix!).
As you have found out, the ABS pump and components are in the bottom of the storage compartment directly behind the driver's seat. Open the storage compartment lid, remove the plastic tray, then the insulating cover and it's all there.
The Haynes book is best used as an emergency backup supply of paper for an outhouse.
Get the genuine Factory Service Manual for the 87. It's a two book set that has detailed sections for each of the car's components and systems including a full electrical diagnosis section with schematics.
They can be sometimes be found in the C4 Parts For Sale section, online auction sites like flea-bay or go right to www.helminc.com to order a new set. When looking for used books, make sure you get the books with the red covers; white covers are the preliminary versions while the red cover books are the production versions.
Thanks cruiser, thanks mike. LOL on the haynes book. I knew that but it was better than nothing for now. I"ll find a set of FSMs soon. At least I found the components. I'll check the connections there & at the wheels. Then I'll have to take it to someone who knows more than I do. Much thanks again for your help
