Default Securing plastic trim piece on upper dash

The piece I am having a problem with on my 95 is the black plastic square that fits against the windshield at the very front of the dash that includes the sun sensor. This thing is supposed to clip in somehow and also be held by the dash pad but it keeps popping up. Does anyone else have a problem with this piece and, if so, how have you solved it? I was thinking velcro?

Thanks,

Doug

Doug,
I had a 96 this way and have seen a few others like it.This is mainly caused by the heat from the sun beating down on the black dash over time and causing the adhesive to seperate and curl the dash up in that
area as well as most of the whole front dash pad edge.Tried several different adhesives to glue the pad down and let it set using phone books over night till it cured to no avail. As the dash raised in that area, the plastic center piece would still pop out of the corners.Went to a couple of upholstery shops and there only suggested sure fix was to remove the windshield due to tight clearance with dash and drill/rivet the dash pad in that area to the underlying plastic in various places to help ensure a permanent fix.I wasn't about to do this for risk of the windshield breaking or possible water leakage after reinstall. I gave up and basically lived with the problem til I sold it. Good luck with finding a fix short of installing a new dash pad if even available.

I agree that the problem is really with the dash pad losing shape since the pad is relied on to secure this plastic piece. I was thinking one fix that might work would be to use velcro hook-and-loop pads--one portion of the pad would be pasted to the underside of the plastic piece while the other portion would be pasted to the top surface of the dash. The only problem I see is that the adhesive would not hold over time due to the sun beating down through the windshield.

Yeah,
I tried every top grade brand of adhesive recommended by the upholstry shops but it wouldn't hold the pad in place. It just pulled the foam off the pad. Seems once the pad starts to curl over time,it takes alot more in way of glue adhesive strength to hold it down. I even tried zip grip super glue thinking that would hold anything ,but it didn't seem compatable with the foam pad bottom to make it stick.

I am not talking about trying to secure the pad anymore. I am trying to secure the hard plastic square piece that fits within the cutout of the dash pad. It is supported on a solid surface (NOT the pad but a surface below the pad) and perhaps velcro pads would work--I will try.

Hate to say this, but the tabs broke on mine to and I used a tiny bit of crazy glue. That plate is hard to find and they usually break trying to pull them out.
