Default coolant temp too high

92 c4 LT1, opti and water pump chged, went together and started up fine, but coolant temp at 185F when idling and upper rad. hose hot,(below stat) and lowwer rad. hose cold,(top of stat housing) till rev motor, then lowwer hose gets hot and coolant flows, but temp keeps climbing and fans do NOT start when climate control is off, but DO when switched to auto, I shut car off at 208F. I did reused temp sender in front of water pump. I bled air from stat housing bleed valve when coolant was cold and when coolant warm, but not when hot,(books say cold???) but not at throttle body bleed valve as of yet. Refilled top tank twice to neck and plastic overflow to between hot and cold.

Any ideas as to what to try next or am I missing something? Thanks

I'm pretty sure LT1s were designed to run in the 220* range??

You are running much cooler than you should...

You should fix that

Considering the main fan is programmed to come on at 227*F and the aux at 236*F what's the problem? Of I course I know you followed the proper air bleeding procedures to ge the trapped air out of the block. Meaning you bled it again hot with stat open. Right?

No, you're not missing anything. My 92 would run around 208 to 220 in city traffic and at freeway speeds it would stay right at 195.

If you "burped" the system at the thermostat housing and you no longer have to add coolant, you are OK there. It might be a good idea to check the coolant level in the expansion tank for a couple days before cold start-up and top off as necessary. The coolant in the overflow tank should not go above the "Cold" mark when the engine is cold.

One thing you should not do is any WOT operation until the engine has gone through 3 complete cycles of cold temp to operating temp and back to cold (100 degrees). This insures that any air pockets will be out of the system. When the W/P forces air pockets past a hose clamp followed by coolant at high pressures from high RPM operation, that can easily blow a hose off.

I bleed throttle body bleed valve hot and let temp. run up to 220F, it sounds like thats normal. I guess I was too cautious. Looks like I'm back on the road just in time for spring....Thanks for the help.
