Buy a pushrod length checker and get the right size. I have a feeling the wrong size pushrods is not your problem. Looks like the valves weren't adjusted right, hopefully you didn't bend any.
Here are a couple of articals that outline how to correctly determine pushrod length/rocker geometry. The only thing these articals don't cover (becasue they are geared towards mech roller race car engines) is the fact with hyd lifters you have to use a very light "checker valve spring" or take a lifter apart and shim it up solid. If you don't, your pushrod measurements will be too long by about .060-.100" because of the plunger on the hyd lifter collasping when the cam lobes comes up. You shouldn't just subtract that amount from your measurements either because some hyd lifters have more travel in their plungers that others and your basically guessing... IMO if your going to guess -why go thru the trouble to measure it at all.
These articals cover proper valve adjustment proceedure for an engine utilizing hyd lifters. It is commonly refered to as the E/O - I/C method (Exhaust Open - Intake Close). This is the proceedure I use.
