Default Replacing 1990 L98 with 1987 L98.

I am putting an 87 L98 in my 1990 vette to run for a couple of years while I nail down and start building up a 400ci.

The 87 has a MAF while the 1990 utlizes speed density. Can anyone tell me what I will need to swap out from my original engine? The idea is to basically just drop this engine in. I don't want to take it apart - that means you need to start buying seals, gaskets and more.

Does it basically just come down to the intake plenum? Are there any sensors that I need to add or swap?

*Edit - and just so we are clear, the 87 engine is a long block - it's extra long even. It has all brackets, alternator, power steerting, AC, all the smog related pumps, hoses and tubes. I have the wiring harness and ecm too.

On this page: http://www.fuelinjection.com/portinj.html

It appears to mention some of this stuff.

Looks like I will need to use the distributor from my 1990 and swap the knock sensors for one - back to looking for more info.
Actually, I reread the text "The EST module, in the distributor and knock sensors are different than the earlier models and must be matched. All hardware components are interchangeable with earlier models."

* So I just need to swap out the EST module or the whole distributor - plus the knock sensors.
* Plug the ninth injector hole
* - still reading

You need your '90 electrics ;dist and KC
Just leave 9th injector in as plug
Can save swapping plenum out by remote mounting the MAP and running a vac line to it

You could just swap intake manifolds and keep your original ECM and wiring since thats pretty much the only difference. MAP vs. MAF.

This option requires the least amount of thought

Yeah, i am going to swap the intakes, replace the front and rear crank seals and a few other things here and there that dry out from sitting so long.

Never hurts to do this. It sounds like you found a perfect short-term answer for you car while you build your motor...congrats
