Hi everybody! I have a question to ask TCC related. I just changed my torque converter and had my tranny rebuild. The reason was my TCC clutch was shot in the TC and it made the car shake violently when it engaged. Just got everything installed and the problem when away about 80 percent.?.? Still shakes when the clutch engages around 35mph and when I press the brake it goes away. What do you guys recommend I check? do you think the solenoid itself is bad? I would have hoped the shop would have checked that for me since that's pretty much the reason i brought it in in the first place!! I cant get a hold of them until Monday to ask... Any advise would be appreciated so when i go talk to the tech i can ask all the right questions, since i did pay 1500 bucks for a new TC and rebuilt tranny Has anybody replaced the solenoid? i sure hope the tranny doesn't need to be pulled again.....

Tell them that the converter vibrates, and ask them if the converter remanufacturer will warrant the converter and re-installation.
I see this al the time. Some shops use $50 remanufactured converters, and hope for the best. Not saying yours did, but alot do.
The o-ring on the end of the input shaft may be damaged or missing.
Be aware that a part throttle misfire will be greatly multiplied when the converter locks up. Be sure you are not suffering from a misfire before becoming upset with the trans shop.
Thanks for info Pete, Would that be the input shaft on the Trans or the shaft on the TC? I do not recall seeing an O-ring, but i also was not looking for one.

On the very end of the input shaft, there is a small o-ring that seals up the lockup. It would not be the first time someone left one off. I always wait till last because when you are loading the input drum, reverse drum and pump, it is easy to nick it.
It does run a little rough.... but i checked everything, and figured it was just the way an 85 runs since it was the first year for the tpi. (I'm new to the tpi scene) timing,plugs,wires,cap,rotor...any other ideas? Cleaned the MAF replaced the IAC, EGR and had my fuel injectors cleaned by cruzin performance. I'm starting to feel like I'm just parts swapping instead of finding to route cause. If it is a misfire its very minor, is there a good method to start a diag? Ive checked codes and its clean..
I don't recall the o-ring, wish i would have taken some pics or something, pulling the tranny for a second time would really hurt. I'm starting to feel defeated by this car with all the work Ive been doing...

Anything that does not kill you, makes you tougher
Don't beat yourself up. I tore up alot of stuff in my time.
Is this what is happening in my 89, when I get to 70 mph and I hit the gas, I get a brief vibration. Now, say I hit the gas at 70 mph and get the vibration and now I'm cruising at 75 mph. Then when I hit the gas at 75 mph I again get a brief vibration. It does this every time I hit the gas at or around 70 mph and above.
Hey guys i think i found the problem. I went off of Pete K suggestion with regards to a misfire. It has always been a come and go thing but when i recently changed my valve cover gaskets the problem got worse and STAYED. This was a good thing with respect to diag, so i started from the beginning and found that the wire on the #2 fuel injector plug was damaged and completely disconnected. I ordered a new plug they should be here next week. Ill reply if it solved the shutter issue.
Thanks for all the good advise, ill be keeping my fingers crossed!

When my torque converter went **** up my car would shake at higher speeds worse than lower. At 60-70 it felt like the car was coming apart. When it down shifted at these speeds it was okay but as soon as it hit the final drive gear - lookout!

I put in a red bottle of Lubeguard. I'll have to take it on the interstate again to see if it did anything.
