i got a set of crane gold race rockers from someone on this site. they told me they were self aligning but when i got them they are just the standard full rollers. no big thing, i got a good price on them so i got new pushrods and adjustable guideplates (due to the fack that i cant find anyone that makes plates that dont need to be machined to fit the stock LT1 heads.) all that i got no problem. my question is, are the roller rockers for lt1's off set at all? will the narrow body sbc rockers work or is there a lt1 spesific rocker that i need? they look like they line up but when i look at a summit or jegs catalog they list a lt1 version, but in another catalog they have the same part number for the plane narrow body sbc rockers. has anyone put non self all rockers on an lt1 and used guideplates?
Those rockers will work, and no the LT1 rockers are not offset. Also, I use the TrickFlow SBC guidplates on my LT1 heads, no machining required and they're cheap $$.
i got some of the trickflow guide plates first for 15 buck. put them on and got a ticking noise and got a little ware on the rocker from the pollylock rubbing it due to the rocker being pushed to the side by the guide plate. and after only a few min of run time scratched a few of the pushrods pretty good. i called trickflow and they did some looking and called me back to tell me they work fine with and were made for there lt1 heads, not the stockers. they say they will fit but ill have problems. and i did. the new guidplates are ready to go now i just needed to check if the rockers are ok before i put it all back together agean.
That's important to be sure about because guide plates won't work with SELF-ALIGNING rockers. You'll get valve train damage if you mix the two different types.
vary sure... i put self aligning rockers on a few other cars i have had and wanted to do the same thing with this but what i got was not what i asked for... so oh well, like i said it was a good price and even with the new pushrods and guideplates i needed, its still cheaper than if i had bought the other rockers. now i have hardend .83 sidewall rods and some good isky plates and still some good rockers for about 250 into it with all new gaskets and all. the guy did send me some studs with the rockers that looked new so that was a good thing. i just need new springs and seals and ill be set for now( always for now, are any of us ever done with mods?)
nope they came ettched from summit with .83 side wall written on them
Well, that can't be right, think about it.
.83" is closing in on ONE INCH thick. Another .17 is putting the sidewallS at one inch. So if you use that figure as your pushrod wall thickness they'd be close to 1" thick.
Remember the spark plug gap is .035", visualize how wide that is. .083" YES, .83 NO.
see above... i missed a 0, i cant type... i just one finger type!ha ha. so my brain works faster than my fingers when i type so i mess up some times. my bad.

i got the same trickflow plates too at first. i dont know what the deal is because they work fine for most of the cylinders but 2,6,1, and i think 8. they just did not line the rocker up strait, maybe i got a bad set? my 92 is an early 92 that is one of the first few hundred off the line by my vin #, i have wondered a few time if some of them got some tweeking in the first few months, and a few if my valves are off center. anyone know if thats the case? the ajustable plates are a pane to do they kept moving a bit when i tried to tighten them down but when i was done they line up great, and i found that not all of them are the same gap when i was done so somethings on my stock heads dont line up like others. nothing is bent but it looks like some of the rocker stud holes are not in the same line as some of the others. but all went well and the new plates are in and everything is good now, ill post some pics soon so you all can get a peek at what im dealing with.
Rick would you have a part number for that Moroso spring compressor? Looks like a fine unit. Where did you get it?
I picked it up locally for $100. I could not install my dual springs with the overhead type of compressor. This one worked very well. It does 7/16 or 3/8 studs and can be adapted to do Jesel shaft mount rockers with an additional add on. I believe this is the same one here. Moroso 62370
