Default '93 LT1 vs LT5

Is it feasible to replace my stock LT1 with an Lt5? Mine is auto, 3.73 Dana 33. There's probably a thread but I can't find it. The FSM makes it look pretty strightforward but nothing on the ecm, gauges etc. The price on this motor and ECM are WELL below a 383 build. As always.....
Thanks!

Jim

The LT5 is also a '93 in a car totaled from the rear so entire motor cradle is available.

Beleive me in the long run the 383 will be cheaper. Nice idea, though.

I'd say to GO for it...

If you can get all the goodies that go with it, you'd be stupid to ignore this.

And you'll have the ZR-1 car, without being one of the "oooh, it's TOO valuable to drive" weenies...

But if you go for it, make sure you get the ecm, wire harness, heater a/c box thing that goes on passenger side as these are wide motors, cradle as you said and a piggy back computer to operate your auto trans. Then have to find a flex plate to fit the LT5, as I don't know how universal it is to fit, and if the auto will match to block. Guessing on those last two. Don't forget the exhaust unless your going to have a shop fit it to yours. If you pull it off that would definetly be cool.

Unless you are getting one dirt cheap, then no. A LT5 will cost you 6k for a used one and up to 10k for a really good one.
The tranny will fit, they have the same bolt pattern as our LT1's and ours is not electronic.
ECM will need to be changed and the wiring harness, the Throttle cable, ASR and kick down cables will work.
Think there is someothe things, do a search. As I remember, someone looked into doing this 2-3 yrs ago.
