Default Can a code scanner cause an engine problem?

I was getting a code 32 on my 95 LT1 (using an X-Ray Code Scanner), so I replaced the EGR Solenoid, and when I started the engine, it ran very rough, I was now getting a code 43. I used the GM Service Manual, to step thru the knock trouble shooting, and found no problems. The voltage on both knock sensors’ wires was 4.9 volts. The resistance on both sensors was 3,500 ohms. After a few days of playing around with the engine, I decided to take it in for service. The X-Ray Code Scanner has been connected the whole time I have been working on the problem. When I was driving to the repair place, I disconnected the scanned, and now the engine runs smooth. Is it possible the scanner is the problem?

I have the Auto X ray 6000, when I have tried driving with it hooked up to my 89 it makes it idle at a higher rpm an sometime surge.I don't think it can harm the car but I contacted a tech guy at there site and they said to be careful when using it on older cars because of the surging I was experiencing..WW
