I did some more looking into it,
its really a clouded issue, some years are 168tooth some 158 (this is from catalogs like jegs ect.).
I still think the vette will take a 158.
the reason I say that is because my 86 manual trans takes a 158 from the factory. I used a 168 for my new motor, It was too big for the stock bellhousing and combined with a lakewood bellhousing it does affect the ground clearance. it also made a starter change nessesary. so I think the 158 was used for packaging and clearance.
lingenfelter has a 153 tooth flexplate listed for stroker motors.
you will need to know if you want internal or external balancing, and it's best to have it balanced with the motors rotating assembly.
