Is there any truth to Flowmaster redesgning a SPECIFIC muffler for the C-4? I read that a redisgned muffler was made specific for the C-4 to combat resonance. I was wondering, because, I hace a set of 13", I believe Super 44's, I was going to install. But, if I will have the drone, I will look onward.
Most of the Corvette accessory catalogs sell a Flowmaster muffler that is a direct fit for C-4's, but I think they are nothing more than a 40 series with dual outlets and the 75 degree bent inlet pipe.
Super 44's are supposed to be louder than the 40 Series. Any Flowmaster I have ever heard on a C4 has been horrible for interior resonance. A friend had a pair of 40's on his 90 with headers, no cats and true duals, and you could hear him a mile away. There was no way to drive the car on trips.
You might want to look at Magaflows or Walker Super Turbos. Also, Flowmasters actually don't flow as well as some other performance mufflers.
Amen on Flowmaster's resonance I had a set of 40's on my 94 coupe when I bought it. The "Dronemasters" set up one hell of a resonance right in the cruise zone. 1800 to 2100 RPM in 6th gear A real PITA on long trips on the Interstates.

I have them and I think they are 50's, definelty not 40's.
I have 40s with true duals no cats. I am laying down dynamat extreme then another insulator over that. I think that should help some. It sounds badass from outside the car regardless.
I have the flowmaster cat back on my car and its super quiet with the windows up. Pretty close to stock sounding. I almost considered removing the resonator. I like it now, its loud enough to be noticed and quiet enough to never be too loud. No problem with resonance.

50 series. Direct replacement for stock cat-back. No resonance and still sounds powerful @ idle for people who know nothing about a stock L98.
I went with Magnaflow over the Flowmaster since they're made out of SS, flow better, and have a rumble that reminds me of LS1 cars. I had flowmasters on several other vehicles in the past and it had the resonation problem on those as well.
I have 3.73 gears in my 93, w/LT headers, and Flowmaster cat back and no cats. No drone, but my rpms are always higher, especially with 2800 rpm stall.
I'd say if you're concerned about resonance and really want Flowmasters then go with the 50 series. Anything else and you'll likely have some annoying drone. I have LT headers, no cats, and 40 series Flows with a x-pipe on my car and the drone will rattle the fillings out of your teeth

50s are one of the quietest mufflers in flowmaster's line, producing about 1/2 of the noise level a 40 series would. Not saying WOT is quiet, by any means, but the noise level at cruise and idle is significantly reduced both inside and out of the car. I have super 44s and, the way I have them set up, there is almost no drone - but it is LOUD cruising anywhere above 2600 RPM. At 2k or under though, it is very tolerable.

If I get headers,I will have the exact same set up. If it is as loud as you say it is, my car will sound like its got 500+ hp.
It all depends how far the tips are out and how big the pipes are. If you keep the pipes around 2.5" and the tips are further than 2" from the bumper, there won't be enough room for the exhaust to reverberate on the car. I'll have to take a vid of my car on a cruise to show you guys, but there's almost no drone under 2k like the muffler eliminators had.

Exact same set up, I have to install on the Vette, with 2.5" tubing. For once, Idont want to hear the dredded drone, I guess I am getting older. I use to just turn up the stereo, but I am getting hearing loss by now.

Sounds great in theory, but I can tell you the tip placement on my car had zero effect on the resonance. I've had my tips flush with the bumper cut-outs and I've had them sticking out 2.5" (at least) and the annoying, teeth rattling, drone was the same either way.
