I need information on the type of wire that the ABS wiring harness uses or made of. This is for a 88 Coupe. The harness runs from side to side under and near the rear. The harness runs from the right side connector, in front of the rear diff and behind the rear compartment boxes, up the trans tunnel and then back down the other side of the tunnel and then into the rest of the ABS harness.
What gauge (16/18?) and type of wire should I use to patch the harness. Is it solid core or strands ? I have some left over wiring from a LS1 harness, would that wire type and gauge work ?
Seem that the heat from the exhause has cooked away the shielding and has exposed wire bare.
All harness wires are stranded! The number ahead of the wire color on the service manual shows the wire size, but it is not American Wire Gauge size. I don't see in my manual what AWG these numbers are equivalent to. I would think that #16 wire should be fine, although you might look at the wires you take out and determine their AWG size by inspection.
JFB.. thanks. I'll have to get under there this weekend.. but from the looks of it.. most of the wires are tosted... the top as it cross the trans tunnel is all bare wire... and most of the rest of it melted or tosted, I almost have to go back to the connector on the frame and the main harness to find some good wire. the plastic harnless wrap is all shot too.
