Some cars are just faster than others right "out of the box" and the weight of the L98 equiped C4 varried over years.....all other factors being = a lighter car will be a faster car. There are many other factors to consider as well; gearing, tires, weather and altitude...among other things.

understand some r quicker but 5-6 tenths.run in MD so about same conditions except track prep. have never seen stock l98 run 13's was just wondering if anybody has.have stock lt4 that runs 13.2's
I have an 85 and never took it to the strip. I do however have 7 old magazine articles when the 85 first came out and tested on the strip. Between the 7 articles the times were 14.1 to 14.5. I'd guess the 14.1 for this brand new 85 was a result of a seasoned driver and the weather conditions were perfect. Sea level, air pressures, cool morning temperature, the whole bit with the weather conditions.
The '85 weighs the least out of all the L98 cars and thus may be slightly quicker in the 1/4, but it also depends on a LOT of conditions. Not all cars are in the same condition, track conditions vary, weather conditions, etc.
For reference, my bone stock '85 ran 14.22@95mph and it was 92*, high humidity (dont know actual %), elevation is about 900 feet. So yes I could see a stock L98 running a 13.9 if the conditions were right.
Last year May 10,2008 at Richmond Dragway at the Mid-Atlantic Corvette Challenge
in Round 2 of time trials I ran a 13.77 at 99.54 and with an Rt of .0829.
At the time my 90 Coupe was bone stock and I was wearing Goodyear GSC. The worst time I had was in Round 4 13.99 at 96.86 (redlighted).
I believe every car was a little bit different right off the production line. I have heard that some injector flow rates were seriously unbalanced, just as some were probably not that far off. I am sure this applies to other systems in the car, as GM kind of rushed a few things. Many things were in there first or second year of real world development.
I read the same article and have a little trouble beliving it too. They also said they went street racing and handled every mustang GT they lined up with. The only thing they had trouble with was the turbo buicks. I have had a few Mustangs and my Vette would not stand a chance against any of them. I like the vette better than most of the mustangs, but the mustangs were faster than the vette.
