Default Engine Balancing Question

When I bought my 85, it had already been rebuilt. The block and pistons were replaced. The block was bored .060 over and KB domed pistons installed. The engine does not feel as smooth as it should be. I'm suspecting that the rotating assembly was not rebalanced with the new pistons. The other possibility is that the balancer is damaged. The question is, would a new fluid balancer help smooth the engine out?

You should definately take a look at your existing balancer to see if it has shifted or is soaked with oil that could be killing the rubber insert. There is a simple way to test if it is slipping or not: simply draw a line on the face from the inner portion of the balancer to the outer edge with a paint pen then start the engine and drive the car then check the line to see if it has shifted. Engine balancing is not super critical unless your spinning it into high RPMs (5500+). Vibrations could be also be caused from loose hardware on the flywheel or flex plate among other things. Stepping up to a new balacer or upgraded may not be a bad idea.
