For those that have done this, how did you go about it? What grit sandpaper did you use to get the old paint off? Did you guys use a paint stripping disc with a die grinder and air or should I just do it by hand? What was the primer that you guys used before respraying it? I thought I saw something before that showed how its done but now I can't seem to find it. Any info will greatly help me. Thanks.
Valve covers have really thick crappy paint to fit all the holes in the castings.Took me three goes with industrial paint stripper plus scrapping to get bare.

The prep work is everything. I bead blasted mine and painted with spray cans. I never had a problem with paint adhesion. I later replace a dented runner and did not blast it and had all sorts of problems with paint.
I wanted the OEM "cast" look so, after degreasing the VCs, I just did a good wet sanding with medium paper (some dabs of old paint remained), cleaned them and shot several coats of MAM VC paint, wet sanding between coats.
It's been over 6yrs and the VCs still look very clean and new...
Whatever you decide make sure that the paint of choice is fuel resistant. Dupicolor engine enamel is very good paint (especially for rattle cans), but may not come in the color choice you want.
