Code 22
The check engine light on my 84 is being displayed intermittently. The ECM is displaying code 22, TPS. The connector is seated, TPS voltage is 5.7 VDC which is in range. I cleared the code and still have the intermittent check engine light and code 22 returns. At idle the car will surge. I'm sure the TPS is the original and my need replacing. I'm not one to turn good money bad. Any suggestions?

Throttle closed, the TPS signal, dk blue on my 87 should measure 0.54 volts +/- .08 volts. This may be different for an 84, I don't have an 84 manual. TPS sensors aren't expensive and they don't last forever. Also be certain that you are measuring the TPS signal wire, its voltage goes from a low voltage (.54 volts) throttle closed, to a high voltage (5 volts) throttle open.
