I have been lucky enough to get my hands on a good condition bare block for free...I may or may not be getting the rotating assembly with it.(the answer to that in 2 hours.
I believe it all to be in stock condition. I don't yet know which 350 block it is, just that it is in usable condition and has 4 bolt mains.
Now, I have built a couple of engines in the past for dual specific purposes, but nothing quite like this attempt.
The other builds were for street/strip or DD/Off-road (as in 4x4 Truck).
I have finally decided what I want to do with my car(purpose-wise) and would like some ideas/advice from people who may have experience with the c4's.
I want to build a car that will primarily be driven on the street but can also be used for SCCA Hillclimb Time Trials.
I want it to have enough power to be fun on the street, (sneering 5.0 Mustang guy wise) be well mannered enough for traffic on occasion, and have a usable rpm range for the hillclimbs.
I have taken the suspension, safety equipment and brakes under consideration and have a viable plan for them.
While the block is free, nothing else will be. I'm not trying to build the engine in a week or even finish it this year. I will probably do this a bit at a time, but first I need a building plan. My usual method is to go with stock spec bottom end with balance/blueprint for reliability and then get my power from the air/fuel delivery, valvetrain, heads, and exhaust.
I would LIKE to keep the TPI if at all possible It was one of the things that attracted me to this car.
As I want the car to remain comfortable for the street, I won't be removing much weight, actually I may add a couple of pounds with sound deadening/heat barrier...
Any help is greatly appreciated...My budget is about $3000.00 for the engine. I don't mind going with used parts if they are in good shape for budget considerations.
Thanks JC

Reason: add more info...
I mean an SCCA event where they take a mountain road that is really steep has hairpin turns and block off a section of it and people race their cars against the clock...it's lots of fun and a really cheap way to get maximum enjoyment out of your car...
I wanted to use Wifey's LGT ScoobyDoo but she ain't havin' that...
Are there limits to how much you can build the engine up?
They run different classes...I don't care about which class I run in as I'm not really worried about winning races, I want to enjoy my car at it's limits and become a better driver(competing against myself)...it's really about beating up on the car I guess.
But I AM sick of the Mustang and the 3rd gen Fbody LT crowd...wanna have a little fun with them...
You should try running it bone stock and see how it does first. I'm no expert but I would assume that torque and great suspension are key to a hill climb, in stock form it already has that. Its the 1/4 mile that the stock L98 sucks at.
After a numbers check it turns out that The block is an OLD LT-1 Block from the early 70's...it did not come with the rotating ASSY someone grabbed that before I got there...dang it would have been a steel crank too...guess I'll be doing this from the ground up...

nice grab, you gonna put solid lifters in like it originally came with?

Probably not if I can come up with a reasonable alternative perf/price-wise...it's way too much trouble taking the valve covers off this car...of course, if I also get rid of some of the CRAP in there that I have absolutley NO use for...that would be different...I want to find out what some of the more experienced people have to say...
You dont have to run the stock accessories if you dont want to, especially if its going to be a "track" car. Some people on here are using setups that leave out the AC and AIR pump. Just run a search and it'll show pics.
