Ok, I have run thru all options available on my '89 vette, I have opened up the evaporator, cleaned it out entirely, flushed out the cooling system, looked at the controller, thought i had a bad resistor, tech hooked it up, and said the piece was running fine..argggh!!
Forum member c4cruiser provided this great link the other day(thanx cruiser!): http://www.idavette.net/tech/c4diag.htm
Check it out, do your diagnostics and get back to us with how it turns out.
You mentioned your tech checking the controller, did he check the solder points on the resistors?
I have recieved the tread which contained the two smaller resistors thast were blown out on someone else's controller, however, my unit did not look like any thing close to this. The only thing I saw was a larger, perhaps a two watt, 13o ohm 5 or six ring resistor that looked melted, solder points still looked good though so....???? the other thing, I have blown out the heater core, good flow makes me believe no blockage, plus, when i hooked up the unit again, both sides of the line produced hot fluid. I have thought of the flapper door not opening properly, but, when I pulled the controller unit, and ran the controller, I see a door opening and closing when I adjust the tempature, any ideas????
Honestly, Paul, I am pretty sure it is not the one you have previously showed me before. It has no hoses to speak of going to it, it has smaller resistors (like the ones you've described before), but i have one larger resistor with what I believe is a five or six ring resistor that melted to the board. Howver the tech hooked it up to an ohmeter, and said it is working properly,so, I am at a loss. Any thoughts? I do have a climate controller that works in one degree increments from 65 to 85then go directly to 90 degrees.. :smash:
I just went through this drill, and found the fitting that screws into the intake manifold was completely plugged. It is the one that the throttle body hose connects to. My heater hoses were hot, everything looked normal, the door was working, installed a new heater core, water pump, new hoses. No real heat. I would get borderline warm air at 65mph, and would lose it at anything below that.
Once I cleaned that fitting, and got water circulating, I have to turn the heat down within a few minutes of getting up to normal temp.
Take it off and check it out, make sure it is clean.
I did need a new water pump and my heater core rattled, so it was gone.
ok...pulled the hose off of the tube from the top of the manifold that tees into the heater core...started the engine...had plenty of fluid coming out of it..so, I believe that not to be my problem.
However, my wife has noticed the temp is sitting up in the 195-220 range, then firing on the fan cooling the radiator, i guess, stupid question, but, could this be a problem for me? :cry
Still not getting heat? I thought ya had solved it by now. Jeez. Ok, have ya done all the above mentioned suggestions? Forced flushed the heater core? Be gentle with that thing tho, ya don't want to blow a 13 year old heater core apart. E-mail me and we can try to go thru a thorough checklist. We gotsta figure this out!
Sounds like your Core is plugged. When they are, coolant simply passes over the top, but not through it. There should be some difference in temperature between the inlet (hotter) and outlet (cooler) hoses, but it would be so slight it's difficult to measure. The only way I know to verify it for sure is to remove the Core, run hot water through it and see if it's getting hot - and not slightly hot, but really hot. This is what I did with mine (since I was replacing it anyway). Afterwards, I blew a 125 lbs of air through it, and that unplugged it, so I'm keeping it for a spare.
