Vibration... Engine or Trans
I have an 88 that I just purchased and am noticing a pretty bad vibration right off idle in park. At an idle you can notice a vibration but its not too bad. If you bring it up off idle it shakes pretty bad. From what I understand the car has had the trans rebuilt with a shift kit and a 2800 stall. My question is, does the converter has a certain position it needs to be in to be balanced? I was reading the manual and it said to rotate the converter 120 degrees and re-install and to repeat this until the vibration was gone. Whats your alls opinions?
Also the vibration is consistent but its like vibration..........vibration........ you get the point.
Another question, is the L98 internal balanced or does the flexplate have a weight on it?
Drop the torque converter cover and remove the 3- 15MM bolts that hold the torque converter to the flexplate. Slide the converter back into the trans to obtain space between the flexplate, and converter lugs. Start the engine and check the vibration. If it goes away, it is your torque converter.
If the flexplate and converter are each properly balanced, rotating the converter make little (if any) difference.
