Need a straight answer. How much power can be gained from porting the stock: Base, plenum, and runners. Yes, I know SLPs have more meat and the stock ones don't have much so please can someone give me a hp increase by porting the stock pieces? No this is not, why don't you convert it to a LTx intake thread.
I agree. From all the things I read porting and polishing is such a small gain in HP, in my mind it's not worth the trouble.
I bought a book 3, 4 years ago called; How To Tune & Modify Chevrolet TPI Engines. Of course I forgot what I read, but I didn't do any of it. It's a good book and maybe you should get one for your answers.

When Vic'89 installed the Accel base he saw no power increase; when he later installed the AS&M LT runners he saw a 15chp gain. I would expect porting the stock units would yield somewhat lower power gains.

The base and plenum will not give nearly the amount of what a nice set of ported aftermarket runners could. If this was my project, I'd invest the money in the runners, and light base porting to match up. THAT I can see a nice 10rwhp jump, but not with the stockers.
I'd say 3-6 RWHP. For me it was a fun learning experience, but you definitely won't feel it in the SOTP. You might run about 0.05 quicker in the quarter with another 0.25 MPH.
picked up 1.5 mph with a very mildly ported TPi base and a clean up at the entry of the plenum. Have done some much more agressive port jobs but havent gotten to see results yet. I would bet much more than 9-10hp
