Default 1985 manual trans questions

1.) My shifter is hard to move from reverse to forward. This only happens when coming out of reverse to go into forward gears. It takes a pretty hard effort to get out of reverse into forward (right in the middle of the shift pattern. Once in forward the shifter shifts easy through the 4 forward gears.
When going from forward into reverse (after lifting the lock out ring) it's easy.
Is this normal? Is there something to check? Or adjust?

2.) This has happened only twice, but when I came to a stop sign and went to shift into first gear my clutch petal when completely limp. Right to the floor with no effort. It was hard to get into gear there was some grinding. After a few trys the petal returned to normal operation and I was able to get into first gear.
Is this a sign the clutch master cylinder is going bad? The slave cylinder?

3.) Just a general gripe, why doesn't the FSM give better detail of removing the shifter ****? Like the "T" rod that connects to the Over Drive switch unscrews.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Sounds like the master may be the culprit. How is the fluid level and color ??
As for FSM info, what section where you looking in, my FSM gives an adequate description.

I though 85's had the OD switch in the shifter plate.
