Default Craig Moates ECM Adapter

As mentioned in the other Forums, Craig has started taking orders for a small "production" run of ECM adapters, similar to the Jet adapter.

For those not familiar with the threads about this: It's a MemCal to ECM adapter that allows straight-through reading of the "limp-home" chips, while not connecting the EPROM on the MemCal. Instead, a ZIF socket is provided for insertion of your own custom (or OEM) EPROM, which is read instead of the MemCal EPROM. If you've seen the pictures of the Jet adapter, it's a lot like that. This adapter eliminates the need to desolder the GM EPROM and solder the Flash eprom (or ZIF socket) in it's place. The MemCal is not altered in any way, and remains fully functional.

I have one of the "pre-production" adapters, and I have to say this is pretty cool!!! Quality is first-rate; fit and finish are very good, and the price is right-on!

These fit both 165 and 730 ECMs; I can't offer an opinion on the 727 as I only have the other two.

Details, pictures, and pricing on Craigs' site -

Yup! I ordered one from him last night and he said he should be mailing it tomorrow. This will make doing alot of changes at one time much easier!

Test fit it last night. I had to take the blue cover off the stock memcal but then it slipped in perfect. Snaps in place. With a lo-profile zif (I agree they are cheap and crappy - you have to push REALLY hard to lock the chip in place andd I am worried about busting something...probably going to switch to a real one) anyway with that, if the cover didnt have an indentation, I could fit it on with a chip in place. Thanks Craig, this thing rocks. It took me like 2 hours to modify my 165 memcal, so I wasn't looking forward to doing it for the 730. Now I don't have to! :yesnod:

FYI, mine fit in the '727 ECM just fine. I could put the cover on even with the big ZIF in there! Mine is the underhood ECM, so that must be why the clearances are different. I'm glad it fit though! Here's some pics:

Will this work on a 93. I want to start trying to burn my own chips but I am unsure how and where to start. I'm stupid when it comes to computers!!! Oh, how much $$$$$. :jester

Nobody replied? OK; I'll take a stab...

Doesn't the '93 use the newer ECM with the square soldered-in chip???

If so, search for Glock's numerous posts on programming his ECM. I believe he says that Andrew of AKM Cables can re-socket the ECM mainboard for a replaceable chip, which can be removed and programmed.

I believe it requires LI1Edit, or similar software. Pocket Programmer does have an adapter for these chips, IIRC.

Been away for a little bit and missed this one!

The '93 should be able to use this adapter. '94 is when they went to a soldered chip.

Marcho,
Good to hear that they fit in the 7727. I bought 2 of his first 5 ...One for my self and John(bowtie8). I thought that it would not fit in the 7727...But all seems well.

Nice job Craig M :D

Folks,

I have enough parts left for about 50 of these ZIF-to-ECM adapter rascals if anyone else is interested. By the way, they WILL work with the 93 LT-1 snap-in Memcals also. So that's anything 86-93 TPI/LT-1. This might be the last batch, let's see if the demand gets filled.

Have fun,
-Craig Moates

Craig -

Besides the Vette site at http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zeroforum?id=48, you also might want to post an announcement at http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...3535&forumid=4

...And I'm sure there's dozens more that would be interested... :D

Plus you just *know* that these will be asked for periodically in all the F-body and Vette tech forums, just like all the other recurring hardware questions/requests...

Might be a neat idea to make the adapters a "sticky"...
