I have a 87 700r4. engine recently rebuilt. first drive it slipped in drive so i limped it home in 2nd. topped the fluid due to low. Took it out the other day and same thing. So i topped it up agian. I figre seing as i did the rad and everything it was just filling up. Now its goodfor level but it still slips the same. Its slips in drive but not in 1st or 2nd. When in drive it shifts good to second but then slips in 3rd. any advise??
You might not have the TV cable adjusted right, but there are some very good tranny guys on here that will be better in answering your question. It was running ok before have motor out for rebuild I take it.
yes it was running perfect. shifted hard had a shift kit. everything was great. i was told to hold throotle plate wide open and push and let the spring take up the slack in the TV cable is this correct.
This is from the 87 FSM
Depress re-adjust tab move slider back through fitting in direction away from TB until slider stops
Release re-adjust tab
Open throttle lever to full throttle stop position to automatically adjust cable
Check cable for sticking or binding
There should be no forced use if there is the adjustment is not the trouble
