mine is a black tag as well, sellling your car huh, what's next?
Either a mid / early 70s C3, or another fbody.
Looking at a '67 firebird this weekend, a '78 Z28, and a '74 Corvette.
I'm still respectful to the fact that the C4 is probably one of the best handling, and sharpest looking cars.. But now that I'm actually DRIVING the thing, I don't like it. Not enough interior room, seats too small for my ***, hardly any leg room, and every time something needs to be replaced it costs 10x as much.
Oh, and the noise from the black tag + single mass makes it sound like a POS rather than a muscle car. Seriously. wtf?

My conflict with the Dualmass zero balanced leaking resulted in a single mass, and in the interest of performance ala mechanic, turn my car into one noisy sun of a gun, I guess it can take the pleasure out of a car, especially if we are middleaged.
other than the noise, I like the car I'm skinny and 5'7"
yes, and it will do it real good when going uphill
I thought there was something wrong with the car, especially going uphill on the freeway, i had to downshift just to get to an RPM that did not make the noise,
thank goodness the engine power band is further up, I can't even use 6th gear at 70 mph,
no one mentioned this when I was doing research of the single mass, all I heard was it was noisy at idle. now this....
can I use heavier gear oil in the transmission to quiet the gears?

I was thinking of you saying this just now. came back from a cruise, going up a hill it makes tons of noise.
The car would be a sleeper if it wasn't for the stupid ZF6.. My blower makes a little bit of noise, but the exhaust (LT1) is dead quiet. All you hear is trans rattle.
I've heard exactly what you are describing with a single mass and it's loud. I kept the stock dual mass flywheel in mine and added a Centerforce clutch and pressure plate. No noise and consistent 10 second passes and 1.5 60 foot times. Also, I believe the dual mass is what is keeping the rear end together on my car. Other than cost to replace, there is really nothing wrong with keeping a dual mass in my opinion.
Mine did absolutely,, from idle to 2300/25000rpm it was rattle like crazy, up at speed there was no rattle but I could hear a whine on the interstate with the window down.
At idle in nuetral was just plain noisy, like something was flopping around in the tranny..

have you seen a dual mass distruct from racing? if so what did it look like?
how long can a dual mass live on street applications?

I've never seen or heard of one coming apart. I'm not really sure how long they last...my guess is over 100K miles. My stock dual mass is at 88K now and I've had no problems with it even after many dragstrip launches on slicks.

Normal life expectancy of the DMF is 90-120k miles. ZFDoc's replacement unit has lasted twice that long.
When it's bad, the unit rotates too easily and doesn't dampen properly. He claims there is no harm with continued use....dampening is just lost.
The seal can go bad -- allowing internal grease out onto the clutch disk. This doesn't seem very common to me and a seal redesign helped prevent that problem. (This is the redesign that caused some 91 units to be out-of-balance.) Though Bill says rear oil main seals won't allow oil thru the DMF, I've seen pics where it's gotten thru. IMO, that too can cause things to get messy.
Feedback I've gotten indicates the stock setup should handle 500hp for at least 50k miles for street applications. Of course how you drive could alter that.
