Default another sorry FX#3 question

Yes I looked in the achives, Yes I read like crazy, No I did not find what I was looking for.

I have a select-ride light ON.

When it was working I felt the differences, just a little,

PROBLEM: I found myself shifting shock rates as much as shifting gears, I think I'm nuts, this could cause a accident.

Now that the light is on, and I tried once to figure it out with the ALDL, no avail.

Off this stuff goes,

So here are the questions:

some of these shocks are rebulit as per PO. I have to look at the paperwork to see which ones.

If I unplug the brain "behind the seat" ( Anyone with pictures) do I have to take the actuator off the shocks?

can I manually set it in some position and leave it there and not worry?

Or because the light came on, some shocks are at different settings, because tha actuator on that shock is broken.

expert comments?

I believe that if you so desire you can leave the "brains" alone. Just remove the actuators. You should be able to turn the gear on the top of the shock by hand to the setting you want.

The actuators themselves can be unpluged and removed from the wire harness. IF you do this however be careful with the rear ones if the wire pulls back into the body you woun't be able to get it back very easily.

The gear at the top of the shock body shouldn't turn more than about 120 degrees. IF it just spins around it is broken.

There is NO need to keep changing the shock settings. I drive every day and don't change mine even once a week.

Once the SRC light comes on steadily, the system defaults to the Tour setting, so changing the switch position does no good at all. The system is basically inoperative.

I tried to answer your question about this problem here back in November of last year.

If you cannot display any of the codes using the paper clip method, I would bet that the FX3 controller is toast or the PROM (chip) is bad.

My suggestion is to either get an 89 Factory Service Manual so you can follow the specific troubleshooting procedure for not displaying SRC trouble codes or have the diagnosis done by a shop that has some FX3 experience.

The 89-91 shock rod gears turn 160 degrees, the 92 and later shock gear turns 90 degrees.

So, if I unplug the light, I stay at TOUR without the benefit of stiffining as speed increases, correct?

If it's only 3 positions, how does it get stiffer in performance mode, it is already at it's highest position.
