After replaceing my injectors, puting my plenum back together, Seeing i had a leak on the rail. I took it back down replace all of the seals.
This time i decided to test the rail before I put everything back together ( like the Instructions Said).
Well i get pressure up to 45PSI with no leaks, but instanly in drops to 20 psi ( 2 SEConds) and then over the Next 3 to 4 seconds it drops to ( ZERO) does this mean the fuel pressure regulator is bad? Please help.
There is a check valve in the tank that goes bad .
Also the FPR may be bleeding off pressure
There is a test proceedure somewhere for indentifying problem

From memory
you get the presure up , clamp supply line from pump line and see if pressure drops. If no drop, leak is on supply line.
If pressure still drops , pressurise and clamp return line.If pressure now holds, the FPR is leaking down
Check the vac line to the FPR for fuel, FPR diaphram may be broken
I clamped the line on then Feed side with vise grips and the drop in Pressure slows down
Can you change a check valve or do you have to replace the whole fuel unit?
The check valve is integral to pump. You could pull the supply line from top of pump, put a piece of hose onto nipple and blow. Might give you an idea of how well the check valve and pulse dampener are sealing.

I replaced the pump About A month ago, It was from Auto Zone,,,, I guess cheap Pumps are not the way to go. I will try what you suggested. Excuse my ignorance, But if the check is bad... Therefore the pump is useless right?
If you got the pump a month ago, take it back.
What brand did you get?
Is it a universal?
Did you check FP after replacing the pump?
Did you do the 2nd test and clamp the return line?
The dampner is on the feed line, that could be bad or not on correctly and not the check valve/pump.

It was a pump Listed for replacment for the 85 Corvette, it was running fine before this project.
If i clamp the Feed line, it make some differnce, it drops slower. if i clamp the return line it makes NO Change. I continued to cycle the pump On and off, maybe 10 times, it still drops pressure, but at a much slower rate, ( with out clamp) I would say, 60 seconds from 40 psi to 30 psi, it still leaks all the way down. I took the Feed line off and trid to blow thru the Pump, But that wasnt happing.... I got no air back to the tank. not by lung pressure.
how long should it hold the 40 PSI, Should it be indefinte? or do they all leak down?
Where would the damper be any way all i see is hard line to the filter and from there to the rail?
Don't sweat it. My pressure would drop to zero with in minutes and I noticed no driving or starting problems. My loss was a the pulsator. I removed it and replaced it with a piece of fuel injection hose and 2 clamps, all good now.
You may want to do the same, just to rule it out.

A86, What is a pulsator? And where the heck is it on my 85?
