I turned my AC on the other day for the first time. It was blowing well but it was not getting cold. I went to Autozone and they have a few different freon recharge kits. One had stop leak. I think another had something to detect leaks. They all appeared to come with a pressure gauge. The AC has not been worked on since at least 2004 when I bought the car, possibly never. Last summer it was blowing cold but it was taking longer to cool and felt like it may be getting weak. I recently did a cam swap and had to move some things around a bit. I'm hopping nothing leaked. What is they best one for my 95? Any tips? Do I need to pick up an adaptor fitting? Is there something else I should check first?
Last time I checked, LA was one of the States that specifically outlawed hydrocarbon refrigerants (19 or so do along with the Feds) and it may be a hard find. These refrigerants are flammable (which is why some think they're dangerous in a mobile environment), so use at your on risk (and don't let anyone light up if you haven't had the Evaporator leaked checked). Before you do anything, find out if it is low - it may be plugged up and if that's the case, you don't want to try to cram anything in it. Hook up some gages to see or at least check the Pressure Sensor Signal on a scanner which will give you the static pressure. By the way, your '95 uses R134. There's no reason to change it, it's readily available, and you don't need anything other than some cash to buy it.
