Hi, '92 six speed manual with less than 24K. Lately I have been hearing what can be best described as a 'whirring' sound when shifting in low gear & once when shifting into reverse. This doesn't happen all the time, only intermittently. My mechanic was unable to detect it while test driving. He changed the transmission fluid & for a couple of weeks-no noise. However I heard it again yesterday. Appreciate any suggestions of what may be causing this.
To me it sounds like the clutch hydraulic system maybe a place to look, that is assuming that the correct trans fluid was used by the servicing mechanic. The zf6spds do require a specific fluid. The newer GM stuff is not exactly what came with the car as GM has no interest in having a special fluid made. GL3 rated fluid is what the original fill was when our cars were in production.
