Default Buying Melrose Exhaust System- New Pic!

I should be getting a Melrose system in a about 2 weeks. Anyone have it? Likes, Dislikes? How long to install? I have a 1987 Z52 4+3. It is all stock now, but I will eventually be adding AFR Heads, and an LT4 Hot Cam. Probably next summers project.

I read they are ill fitting in some spots, this is just aimless regurgitation, seach it, I think there are some picture, don't be alarmed yet, let us know how yours goes.

I have read a little about the ill fitting, but I think only people with automatics and X-braces had the problems.

You will need to eliminate the "bubber band" stock type hanger that goes on the c beam to the exhaust. Everything will fit as advertised, but the stock rubber mount will not support the weight from the c beam. Mine is a 90 a-4

I can't wait, I will keep everyone posted on how it goes, and will try to get some pix of the install. Eventually I will have a video clip so everyone can hear it.

What did you do to support the Melrose system in the rear without using the c-beam exhaust hanger? Did the system go in easy? How was the fit with the A4 tranny? Did you get the complete 3" system with x-pipe and Random Technology cats? What mufflers did you use? Pics?

I got a pair of used Corsa mufflers to finish it off. They need a little dinking around with, but they should work great!

Those rear hangers look like they come from a LT1 C4. Are they OEM pieces? It looks like you welded brackets onto the Melrose system? What about the coating on the Melrose system did you grind it off to weld? Then repaint it? Where did you get the rubber hanger on the rear pass. side? Is it an OEM piece? Thanks for any info.

Yes the rear hangers are LT's and you will need to have tabs welded to the tubes for them to work.
GM PART # 10157949, DESCRIPTION: HANGER (rear hanger)
GM PART # 10258672, DESCRIPTION: HANGER (rear hanger)
The other hanger on the pass. side is a universal type hanger usually available at most exhaust shops. I tried to make the LT4 trans hanger work and there is not enough room to clear the tunnel using 3" tubes. This is another reason why I needed something more solid instead of the "rubber band" style hanger located on the c beam.
I purchased the system a few years back direct from random tech. It was never coated and came looking this way (bright stainless tube).

I ordered a Melrose system for my 96 LT4 including the header. Chis, a Melrose rep, he stated that it was a bolt on system. I guess I'll find out when it arrives, hopefully some time next week. Good luck with your system.

Well, over the weekend I got the entire stock exhaust system out of the car! I was hoping to also have the full new system in this weekend, but only the Headers have arrived so far. However, this is ok, because it has allowed me to take my time. In addition to the new exhaust, I have decided to also replace my O2 sensor, Knock sensor and connecting wire, I ordered a Summit Protorque Mini Starter, and had to purchase a new dipstick tube cuz I trashed mine taking it out haha... $50 F-up! I have also decided to go with new ACDelco Rapidfire Spark Plugs. While having the exhaust out, I figured it was a perfect time to install the short-throw shift linkage that I have had sitting around for a few months. It is still a pretty long shift, but def. shorter than it was!

Here are some pics from the weekend! And if anyone is interested in a stock exhaust that is in good shape, I will be selling mine, along with the manifolds.
