Good morning all:
Have a 1985 with AC issues.
Keeps blowing the fuse at random times.
Tried a higher amperage fuse but it still blows a random times.
Any advice?
Thanks in advance

Probably a shorted clutch coil - quit trying a higher rated fuse! Check wiring at the clutch; diode (should be in the Connector or close to it) - replace coil - though they're about a third of the cost of a new compressor so you might just replace the whole unit.
Should be some resistance across the Leads. I forget the exact #, but you might ask on the board here: www.ackits.com or review their tip here: http://www.autoacforum.com/messagevi...threadid=14950 (though you allready know that it's blowing the fuse)The Diode should only show a completed circuit towards ground. If it's closed on both, the juice can flow back through the Coil and short out other components.
NEVER install a higher current fuse! Clutch coils are very low resistance and most test ohmeters won't accurately read low enough to tell a short from the coil resistance. Besides, if it is your clutch coil, it isn't shorted all the time and you would need to measure the coil when it does short....very unlikely. Another reason why the fuse blows is a chaffed wire that goes to the clutch coil shorts to nearby metal occassionally which blows the fuse.
Check the wires connected after the fuse for cut insulation and if none found, the clutch coil is suspect. Keep in mind that the a/c fuse supplies power to a/c control switch, to two pressure switches, to the ECM, and to the clutch coil. All of these wires need to be inspected.
Not always, but usually when a clutch coil shorts, it stays shorted.
JFB has some good points. Test by powering up the clutch with a fused jumper directly from the battery. If the fuse doesn't blow, then it's something else.
