I just finished swapping the ZF6 from my old engine to the new. In trying to figure out how to swap the bellhousing, I removed the screw with the allen wrench, that covers the clutch fork ball. Anyway, I stabbed the tranny which took forever and got it all buttoned up. Then I noticed I forgot the screw! DANG!
Do I need to pull it back off and put on the screw? It took forever to stab the tranny plus 3 guys. I really really don't want to do that again.
The bolt is to lock the ball in place. If it is not there the ball could unscrew itself. Then the fork will hit the pressure plate and make nice gringing noises. Mine fell out and this is what happened. So yes you need to do it all over again.

Ours was left off by some prior owner's 'mechanic', and the fork pivot ball DID back out --
and there are many reports of forum members having the ball back out even with the locking 'nut' -- usually after the locking 'nut' came loose or fell out...
BTW, be sure to put lock-tite on both the pivot ball's threads AND the locking 'nut' too...
