I just finished fixing my loose steering wheel, which had worn holes in the housing. I want to put it back together but I'm having trouble with the steering wheel lock mechanisim. A spring feel out!
I've read through my FSM and it seems that the rack preload spring came apart from the switch actuator rack, but I don't have any diagrams on where it goes other then the exploded view of the entire steering column! Does anyone know where this spring goes? Here are a few pics of what I'm talking about.
I think the point of the spring is to add tension to always try and push the steering lock cylinder out. Here is a link to an exploded view of the steering column. The spring in question is #39. Thanks!
Nevermind I figured it out. The spring attaches to the groove in the housing. The other spring needs to go into the slot of the plastic gear. That adds the tension to push the lock cylinder out.
