I am replacing the F45 shocks on my 96 with Bilsteins. When I pulled the old shock off all the rubber bushings came off except one which is pressed into the upper shock tower. When I attempted to put the new shock up into the tower there was not enough room to get the nut started. My question is should that old rubber bushing be removed. I would think that all old bushing should come out and be replaced with what came with the new Bilsteins. Any help would be appreciated.

there is never bushings pressed in for shock, it got sqwashed, pry it out and use new.
what is throwing me off is the new Bilsteins don't seem to fit up into the shock tower snug the way they should.
Is it gas charged? then it should want to extend...
Don't worry about that the bottom it is held on by 2 bolts, it ain't goin nowhere, and the shock exerting force to lengthen, will keep the top stud from popping out, the top rubber, washer and bolt, keeps it all together.
