OK, looks like I'm going to upgrade my stock L98 to 1.6 rockers while I have the heads off. Since I'll have the heads looked at I'm going to also follow recommendation to upgrade springs.

I'm thinking for a stock 1989 L98 that using the GM performance LT4 spring from 1996 would be a good choice. It is rated up to .525 lift, with a O.D. 1.32

This sounds right?

for a stock cam with 1.6's that would be fine.

I, too, am researching for new 1.6 roller rockers for my L98.
Are new pushrods needed, also, or are the stock ones OK?
Is is true that the "drip tabs" inside the valve covers need to be cut off?

you may need new pushrods because there is more movement and at that point, i would also get hardened guideplates and new studs. and yes, the drip tabs have to be cut off to clear the roller rockers. i did this job on my friend's '92 and it's not that bad. the only thing that was trouble was cutting the drip tabs. adjusting the roller rockers, you can use a flat blade screwdriver up against your ear as a stethoscope to make sure they are adjusted properly after you set the preload.

anyone else can pipe in at any time if i missed something...

good luck!

OK, well looks like the LT4 springs are fine for this application with a stock cam. If all else is stock and the roller rockers are self aligning, why would new push rods be needed?
