operating temp. too low?
when I replaced the intake gasket i put in a new thermostat. I has a fail safe were if the car overheats it stays open instead of closed. Well about a week after install, the engine got pretty hot while in traffic and now the thing is always open! driving around the engine temp is only just over 100 degrees, not even close to where it used to be, (about half way). Is this not good to be driving around at this temperature? Does anyone know what it effects?

Yes thats bad, your thermostat is stuck open and the engine cant heat up enough to go into closed loop. You need to replace the thermostat ASAP. The effects of not doing so...
-bad gas mpg
-higher emissions (less emissions at hot temps)
-more likely to put more wear and tear on the engine, oil temps not getting hot enough to properly lubricate.
