You just tested the fuel pressure regulator with your fuel pressure gauge, it passed. If the regulator was bad it wouldn't hold pressure.

Check the msd opti they have a bad reputation over at camaroz28.com,a lot of people said theirs crapped out within minutes of install.I bought one of their cap and rotors and it didn't work very well.

Do you still have that old gas in gas tank while throwing parts at your car because of a no-start condition?Where you live?If not wanting to be specific list state.

Yes. The switch at the base of the steering column.

Not a big job, just a tight fit.

Need to remove the hush panel to get access to it.

Just unplug it and remove two screws.

So the car ran fine, meaning no issues at all, until you put the hypertech chip in? If this is the case, there is the root of your trouble. Okay, you took the chip out, and I'm confused, put the stock chip back in, or replaced with entirely different ecm? Could the stock chip have been damaged while out of the car? or if different computer, is it possible that it was damaged or not configured for your engine? Did you try the original ecm with the original chip? In other words, put all the stuff in there that was in there when it was running fine?

Next set of questions, what would be damaged by the chip? Coil? Opti? MAF? IAC? O2 sensors?

Logically it is a simple equation...it was working fine then I did X. after doing X it no longer ran fine = X caused the problem.

I got a feeling it is the opti. The one big advantage of a L98 Distributer. That Opti is nothing but a nightmare and Ill bet that is the problem. Ive seen them go like 123 and I cannot stand them. Hope it isnt but reading everything else sounds it to me.

Oh and to give an example of how things can be defective even new. I once installed a fuel pump in the dead of winter. Freezing rainy cold damp bone chilling hatefull weather on my back at night. Had to drop the tank. I never forgot this one. I needed the car running so it had to be done otherwise ZI would have waited till better weather.
In anycase, when I was done. soaking wet and frozen beyond belief I got in the car and wham started it right up. I waited to hear that fuel pump chime in and when it was started I just sat there and waited for the heat to come on.I was so happy
Next morning. I get in the car put the ignition to on position and I swear Im not hearing the pump chime in. Im like no way. Well sure enough yeah way. The brand new fuel pump was dead. Can you believe it. I was like are you fuking kidding me. Well you know the rest of the story. Wish you the best of luck with it but so far it seems like that just might be the case with yours. I have been reading this post for sometime and that was my first thought when you mentioned the opti. I have had them go and man I hate that job but it might have to be done. Cant wait to hear you solved it. Ill eb watching, best of luck

Oh and just because you put the chip in and the problems began doesnt mean that was the problem could just be coincidental

Some of my experiences with the opti. I found that the vacuum harness was incorrectly hooked up and sucked it full of oil. That the msd ones do have problems. If you can get a hold of a multiple spark tester, get it and check for more than one plug. Check where the wires are routed by the pullies and make sure none touched and are arching. Some people think when they put a chip in it makes their cars race cars and run the engine harder than they should and damage them. Compression check would be on my list. Watch fuel pressure durring cranking to see if it maintains 43.5 psi or so. Do these cars have VATS? My car came with a Dynaspark that was less than a month old and was junk. So do not rule out the opti to quickly. They do not like being banged around when being put on, as any missfitment will result in the opti sensor being damaged.

Good luck and keep up the fight for a better running LT1.

Well my misery is finally running again .to anyone who was following my misery ,my mech.had my car for over a year tinkering with it when he had time .i wasn't concerned about it cause I lost interest.its back now ,he said it was the coil! The brand new mad coil I put on.one more msd product that that let me down.he also installed a steering column out of a 90 vett that is supposed to be comparable . Not so as my air bag doesn't work now and I don't have a horn .maby he's just a ****** mech. Or the column was damaged. not sure I was just happy it was running .also my signal switch doesn't stick when signaling right .signaling left isn't very smooth ither just doesn't lock into place like the original. The plus side of things is it starts better than it ever has before.it used to turn over 5 to 7 times before starting now as soon as I turn the key she fires up. No I'm wondering if I should sell this money pit or what.i love driving it .

if it runs, and runs good, almost any other fault can be overlooked. enjoy your car.

p.s. yours is about the umpteenth thread I've read where aftermarket MSD parts failed.

Puss nuts didn't put the rad cap on !!! Was just resting on it. Thank god.. When I lifted the hood the fluid ran down and poured onto overflow tank so that's where I thought it was coming from ,around there.and it was dark.
