'84 Fuel Pump - ? Ground Problem
I have an '84 that has gone through three fuel pumps. The first one went bad shortly after I got the car and I didn't think much of it. I bought a replacement and within a couple of weeks it went bad also. I returned it for a replacement figuring I got a bad pump from the factory, but the new one went bad in relatively short order also, so I'm convinced it's something electrical with the car. I did check the voltages at the pump and they were ok (I did this last spring so I don't remember the numbers, but the car has sat in the garage since then as we were doing some other work on it).
My thought is that there may be a ground issue and my question is - has anyone else run into this? Is there an easy fix or at least someplace to start? I considered running a new ground from the battery back to the fuel pump, but was hoping for some input on whether this might work or if there is a better solution.
Thanks in advance,
Matt
another thing to check would be the fuel filter or some other blockage in the line
good luck

May not have anything to do with your situation but I once thought I had a bad fuel pump. Worked sometimes and other times not. Replaced the fuel pump with some generic replacement from O'rielly and still same result. Checked my fuel pump relay and it was good but my 3-blade oil pressure sensor was leaking and this intermittently was causing a sporadic "oil pressure" signal going to my fuel pump relay. Just something to look at. Once I replaced my oil sender, my new generic pump has been working perfectly great. In fact, I bet the one I took out would have worked just fine too.
